Sunday Bridge Series: Landerneau, Finistère, France, 2010

Pont de Rohan on the Elorn river in Landerneau is one of the oldest inhabited bridges in Europe, 500 years old this year! It existed since 1336 but was rebuilt in 1510. I believe it is the only inhabited bridge on a tidal river. A contribution to Louis la Vache's Sunday Bridge Series.

I was going to ask, "Where's the bridge?" But then you 'splained it to me. Never have seen anything quite like this. A beautiful shot with great reflections!

...and a very interesting contribution to Sunday Bridges it is, Ciel! Many aux Ètats-Unis don't realize that inhabited bridges were once very common in Europe and in England. In any case, they are very rare today.

Incroyable! Construire des habitations au dessus d'une rivière!
En tout cas, bravo pour le cliché et merci pour ce petit intermède de culture!

Fascinating! We don't have bridges like that here in Ontario.

As Louis noted bridges with houses on were once common across Europe but not so many left now - love the reflection here.

wow Ciel,
So much history, so much beauty, there is something dramatic in this composition, very well captured!
Today in Luxembourg all shops including the malls are open, they said it's "braderie", I didn't know this word, sales! ;)
Happy Sunday

Very nice. I am sure that bridge has seen some interesting history. Must be fun (in a way) to live in a place so old.

It's so interesting to see this. I've read about inhabited bridges, but never seen one. Your timing was so fast, I think you must be hungry for crab :)

Fascinating on the outside - the rooms must be even more interesting inside. And another reason for me to put Finistere on my list of places to visit!
